Terms of Service

By accessing or using DecayApp ("the App", "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What DecayApp Is

DecayApp™ is an informational tracking tool. It provides estimates only — lifespan projections, decay percentages, wear calculations, replacement recommendations, and cost figures are general guidelines based on typical product lifespans and data you provide. They are not engineering assessments, safety certifications, or professional inspections of any kind.

2. Liability Waiver

Before using the app you are required to read and accept a liability waiver. By accepting, you acknowledge that:

• DecayApp™ provides estimates only. Actual product wear, safety, and performance depend on countless variables the app cannot account for, including specific product quality, manufacturing tolerances, storage conditions, usage patterns, environmental factors, and maintenance history.
• You — not DecayApp, not its developers — are solely responsible for all decisions about when to replace, repair, or continue using any product. A product showing any decay percentage, including 0%, may be unsafe. A product at 100% may still be serviceable.
• For safety-critical items — vehicle tires, brake components, safety equipment, medical devices, structural elements, or any product whose failure could cause injury, death, or property damage — always follow manufacturer guidelines and consult qualified professionals. Never substitute an app estimate for expert evaluation.
• Nothing in this app constitutes mechanical, engineering, medical, or safety advice.

By accepting the waiver you waive any and all claims against DecayApp and its developers arising from your use of or reliance on any information provided by the app. This waiver is recorded permanently on our servers (see our Privacy Policy) for legal compliance.

3. Community Features

When you retire an object, you may optionally log how it went via the "confession" feature. If you do, an anonymous counter for your chosen category and verdict is incremented in a shared database readable by all DecayApp users. No information identifying you is attached to this data.

If you join a household using the household sharing feature, your display name and full object list are shared with every person who has your household code. You are responsible for who you share your code with.

4. Subscriptions and Billing

DecayApp™ offers a free tier and a Pro subscription billed via Stripe. By subscribing you agree to:

• Recurring charges on the billing cycle you selected (monthly or annual) until you cancel.
• Stripe's Terms of Service, which govern payment processing.
• No refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law.

You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Your data remains on your device even after cancellation.

5. AI Features

Pro features including AI photo identification, receipt OCR, and product recall checking send data to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. By using these features you acknowledge that image and object data is transmitted to Anthropic subject to their terms and privacy policy. We do not retain the content of AI requests on our servers beyond what is needed to return the response.

6. Your Data

Your object data is stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synchronised to your account in our database. See our Privacy Policy for full details of what we store, where, and how long.

You may export your data as CSV from within the app (Pro feature) or request account deletion by contacting us. The liability waiver audit record is permanently retained and cannot be deleted — see the Privacy Policy for details.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
• Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
• Manipulate or falsify community confession data.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, design, and code comprising DecayApp are the intellectual property of DecayApp and its developers. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without explicit written permission.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that lifespan estimates will be accurate for any specific product or use case.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be communicated via a notice in the app.
